The problem
Caterpillar is a major global player in the construction industry, and the largest part of its market is driven by rental. The CDRS, Cat Dealer Rental Software, is the official software for all Caterpillar's dealers around the world. The goal was to totally redesign software user flows, functions and interfaces, following both CAT improving expectations and its dealers requests.
The approach
This project involded a deep UX analysis, which led to a clear software design, step and upgrade presentations and animated videos for new releases promotion. I led my UX/UI design team within a larger work group, which included Caterpillar Product Owners and Alias2K development team. Here is a brief recap of this project.

My team and I started with a deep investigation of this very big software structure. It was often updated following the need for effective short-term solutions without having the chance of focusing on a long-term vision. The software really needed a freshen up.
We then designed a new master layout in consistency with CAT branding guidelines. It included all its development rules and the design system of all its components. This was our starting point of the actual redesign.
Once we created the foundations, we prepared a long term work plan together with CAT product owners and Alias2K development team, in order to detail all the various areas of their software, analyze its functions and organize goals and objectives in a precise timeline following SCRUM and Agile Method.
We were now ready to follow our timeline and keep working on software user experience and internal flows. It was essential to have a creative, constructive and dynamic approach to face each upgrade while keeping in mind the project's bigger picture.
After months of weekly calls, presentations, feedbacks and a bold development phase, CDRS 3.0 was finally ready for release. For CAT marketing team, we also created an informative animated video that clearly presents all new features.
Although this can be defined as a full remote project, it was necessary to set up few live meetings with the whole team, which were often dedicated to work retrospectives and planning of new features. However, the human relations we created with the whole team were key for the success of this project.
Below are some of the highlights of this super satisfying project.
