The problem
The European Rental Association is committed to enhance sustainable projects and initiatives within the construction sector. The ERA management identified the CO2 calculator as the ideal tool to support the request for greater rental incentives in the EU. The goal of this project was to provide a precise measurement tool for CO2 emissions generated by equipments, whether it is a single construction machine or an entire construction site.
The approach
With a key role in a multi-agency project, we worked in collaboration with Alias2k and CE Delft. My team and I analyzed and designed the calculation structure, flows and screens to ensure the calculator's reliability, accuracy and effectiveness. To enhance the calculator's impact, we embraced a straightforward and captivating communication approach, supported by a collection of animated illustrations exclusively tailored for this project. These illustrations were key to enrich the European Rental Association's corporate communications and their annual magazine, Discover Rental.

Pioneering the Future of Construction
I was called to lead the UX/UI design of the CO2 calculator and all the promotional material for the launch of this new tool.
A significant part of the project was in charge of the CE Delft study center, which analyzed equipments' CO2 emissions, from their production, to transport, maintenance and end of life.
At the end of this phase, CE Delft team sent us an interactive Excel file - which was already a very well functioning calculator on its functions. I led my team in a deep analysis of the tool's structure and steps, and we then translated it into an easy to use tool for everyone.
I led the design of the user flow together with my team and Alias2K development team, with whom we worked side by side until the first release of the calculator.
We also prepared all promotional materials for ERA official announcements of the CO2 calculator. For their Conference 2021, we created dedicated graphics, pitches and the CO2 launch video.
The CO2 calculator now allows users to directly verify their construction equipments CO2 impact, and to compare two different scenarios in case of rental or purchase, and different energy sources.
The development of the calculator continued towards a new version that will soon be launched and will allow the calculation of an entire construction site. Coming soon!
